In a city like London, where fine dining is part of its global identity, Michelin-starred restaurants are far from rare. Yet among this constellation of culinary excellence, some shine more brightly than others. SOLA, tucked away on Dean Street in Soho, is one such gem — a restaurant that holds a well-deserved 1 Michelin star and offers an experience that’s as distinctive as it is delightful.
With its Californian-inspired tasting menus, intimate setting, and impeccable service, SOLA has earned its place as a top pick among 1 Michelin star restaurants in London.
What truly sets SOLA apart from its peers is its unique culinary identity. While many Michelin-starred venues in London lean heavily on classical French, British, or Nordic styles, SOLA delivers something unexpected — a menu inspired by the vibrant, seasonal cuisine of California’s Pacific Coast.
Chef Patron Victor Garvey brings his international flair to the kitchen, combining European technique with Californian spirit. The result is a tasting menu that’s imaginative and sophisticated, yet refreshingly light and full of flavour. Every dish tells a story, balancing artistry and restraint with impressive confidence.
SOLA offers multi-course tasting menus that evolve regularly to reflect the changing seasons. Whether you’re visiting for a midday lunch or indulging in the full evening experience, you’ll be treated to a journey that highlights the best of British produce, with a Californian twist.
Expect to see dishes featuring delicate seafood, perfectly prepared meats, and vibrant vegetables, all presented with the kind of care and creativity you’d expect from a Michelin-starred kitchen. Each plate is refined and expressive, without being over-complicated or fussy.
The set lunch menu is a popular option for those looking for Michelin-level cooking in a shorter format, offering excellent value without compromising on quality or experience.
One of SOLA’s greatest strengths is its intimate and stylish setting. With a modest number of covers, the dining room feels personal and serene — a welcome escape from the energy of Soho’s streets. The decor is contemporary and understated, evoking the laid-back elegance of California without ever feeling themed or forced.
Service at SOLA is equally impressive. The staff are knowledgeable, warm, and attentive, striking a perfect balance between professionalism and friendly engagement. Whether you’re a regular or a first-time guest, the experience feels polished, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming.
To complement the food, SOLA offers an outstanding wine programme, with particular emphasis on North American producers. The wine pairings are thoughtfully curated to match each course, offering a creative and inclusive alternative.
The emphasis on unique and expressive pairings further enhances SOLA’s reputation as a Michelin-starred destination that’s unafraid to go its own way — and better for it.
There’s no shortage of Michelin-starred excellence in London, but SOLA stands out by offering something genuinely original. It’s not just about ticking boxes for luxury, precision, or presentation — it’s about crafting a dining experience with identity, warmth, and a clear point of view.
From its Californian roots and seasonal tasting menus to its intimate setting and exceptional service, SOLA is a restaurant with heart. It’s perfect for celebrations, special evenings, or simply for those who love discovering the best London has to offer in modern fine dining.
