SOLA: A Star Performer Among One Star Michelin Restaurants in London

SOLA: A Star Performer Among One Star Michelin Restaurants in London

May 20, 2025

When it comes to one star Michelin restaurants in London, there is no shortage of exceptional options. Yet few manage to blend innovation, intimacy, and accessibility quite like SOLA. Tucked away on Dean Street in the heart of Soho, this discreet yet highly acclaimed restaurant has quickly earned its place among the capital’s most exciting fine dining destinations. With a strong culinary identity rooted in Californian cuisine, SOLA brings something truly original to London’s Michelin-starred landscape.

An American Accent in the Heart of Soho

At the helm of SOLA is Chef Patron Victor Garvey, whose vision for the restaurant draws inspiration from California’s Pacific Coast. Unlike the many French- or British-led kitchens in the city’s Michelin guide, SOLA proudly presents modern American fine dining, interpreted through a European lens.

What this means for diners is a fresh and distinctive menu that celebrates seasonality, clarity of flavour, and culinary creativity. From delicately prepared seafood to meat dishes finished with flair and finesse, SOLA’s tasting menus are crafted to surprise and delight at every turn.

What Sets SOLA Apart?

SOLA earned its Michelin star in 2021, and it’s easy to see why. As one of London’s standout one star Michelin restaurants, it offers not only technical precision and premium ingredients but also a cohesive culinary narrative. The food is elegant without being overworked, and sophisticated without being stiff. Dishes are often playful in name or presentation but always grounded in impeccable flavour balance.

The kitchen changes its menus frequently to reflect what’s in season, meaning no two visits are ever quite the same. Whether you choose the set lunch or the longer-tasting menu at dinner, each course is a reflection of the team’s deep respect for ingredients, storytelling, and visual artistry.

Atmosphere: Relaxed, Refined, and Unpretentious

While many Michelin-starred restaurants lean into white tablecloths and formal airs, SOLA manages to feel luxurious yet relaxed. The dining room with minimalist décor that nods to California’s effortless style — think soft lighting, clean lines, and warm tones.

The service strikes just the right tone, offering polished attentiveness with a genuine smile. Staff are knowledgeable and happy to talk you through the dishes and wine pairings, but never overbearing. It’s this balance of professionalism and approachability that makes SOLA particularly attractive to those who want to experience Michelin-star quality without the usual formality.

Wine Pairings That Reflect the Menu’s Identity

One of SOLA’s great strengths is its impressive wine list, which places a special emphasis on North American producers, particularly from California. The sommelier team offers a choice of standard or premium wine pairings to accompany the tasting menu.

Each pairing is carefully matched to the dishes, not only complementing the flavours but also enhancing the overall experience.

Perfect for Lunch, Dinner, or Private Dining

SOLA offers both lunch and dinner services, each centred around multi-course tasting menus. For those seeking a Michelin-level meal with a lighter footprint, the set lunch menu is an excellent introduction to the kitchen’s style and skill. The evening service, meanwhile, provides a more expansive and immersive culinary journey.

Private hire is also available, making SOLA a great choice for celebrations or corporate dining, with options for both intimate gatherings and larger parties.

A One Star Michelin Star That Truly Shines

In a city overflowing with fine dining options, SOLA sets itself apart by offering something authentic, original, and memorable. It may be one of London’s one star Michelin restaurants, but its ambition, consistency, and charm put it on par with many establishments boasting higher accolades.

For anyone seeking a culinary experience that breaks from the norm, where imagination meets precision, SOLA is a must-visit. Whether you’re a London local or a visitor exploring the capital’s vibrant food scene, this Soho gem delivers Michelin-starred excellence with soul.
